This novel, by far, is one of my favorite written stories of all time. The autohor fearlessly presents the Gospel in a way which takes 1st century living and makes it relatable to our modern-day culture. Douglas captivated me! He hit my emotional core — yes — but moreover, he built my faith with this work of histoorical fiction. What an excellent storyteller! It saddens me that critics have occasionally criticized his art by purporting that he wasn’t literal enough, or that he was too literal in his interpretations. Douglas was a man used by God to bring the Gospel to so many in his beautiful novel, not by being perfect in his history (though he was dead-on in most cases!), but by bringing the reader right to the cross, where they must ponder the question, “Who was Jesus? Was he a lunatic, or a good teacher, a holy man like many others…or was and IS He, God’s Son and our Lord?”. Well done! A “must read”!
